HOT ROD CLASSICS VINTAGE SERIES TO DEBUT AT RIVERSIDE ON IWK 250 WEEKEND
JAMES RIVER, NS (February 25, 2020) – Fans attending the IWK 250 presented by Steve Lewis at Riverside International Speedway on July 18 are in for a special treat with the debut of the new Heart of a Champion Hot Rod Classics Vintage Race Car Series. It’s a natural fit for both the track and the series as Riverside’s roots in regional racing are deep; with 2020 being its 51st year, Riverside is the longest-operating race track in eastern Canada.
“We’re excited to have the vintage series debut at Riverside,” said Paul McLean, general manager of Riverside. “There is a lot of excitement building as the series debut gets closer. It will be cool to include them in the IWK 250 weekend.”
The series will return to Riverside August 15 for round four of five on its 2020 season as part of the Rev it Up at Riverside grassroots motorsports extravaganza.
The Hot Rod Classics series will showcase race cars from 1980 or older – some original, some rebuilt, and some newly built – giving veteran fans an opportunity to relive precious memories and at the same time providing a forum where newer fans can experience race cars of a bygone era. Vintage car racing is presently the fastest-growing division in North American motorsports.
The IWK 250 Super Weekend kicks off Thursday, July 16 with the IWK 250 TestFest & Tailgate Party featuring Cape Breton’s party band, High Society. On Friday, July 17 it’s the Napa Sportsman Series and Maritime League of Legends and on Saturday, July 18 the cars and stars of the IWK 250 take to the track along with the Hot Rod Classics.
Campsite reservation renewals for the IWK 250 Super Weekend are now available and due by March 31. New reservation requests are also available and will be filled starting in April. The IWK 250 Campsite Renewal/Request Form can be found online at www.RiversideSpeedway.ca. Stay tuned to the Riverside website and social media pages for additional event details and on-sale dates of IWK 250 weekend tickets.
The IWK 250 is a championship points race with the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour (PST), round seven of 12 for the 2020 campaign. Since its inception in 2007, the IWK 250 has helped raise awareness and more than $481,000 for the IWK Foundation.
The remainder of the Hot Rod Classics race dates and locations for 2020 will be announced in the coming days.
Riverside International Speedway will open its 2020 season on June 6 with the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour and Napa Sportsman Series.
