CLAREMONT, N.H. – Racing is alive and well again in the Twin State Valley. Claremont Motorsports Park hosted its first event of the summer Friday, June 5, with more than 90 teams on hand to strut their stuff at the storied third-mile speedplant.
The pandemic-rules event played to an empty house – it was, however, televised – but otherwise went off perfectly, with a full field of Granite State Pro Stock Series teams providing the night’s main attraction with their series’ season-opening Let’s Go Racing 100-lapper.
Nutmeg State bomber Ray Christian III took charge late to win the GSPSS main event, duplicating his Claremont victory of last autumn, with hometrack stars Dave Greenslit, Kodi Sabins, and Eric Lanou also earning inaugural night victory laps.
July 18 NASCAR Xfinity Series race realigned to Kentucky Speedway; NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race canceled
LOUDON, N.H. – As part of NASCAR’s revised 2020 schedule, the July 19 NASCAR Cup Series Foxwoods Resort Casino 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway has been postponed to August 2 and will be broadcast on NBCSN at 3 p.m. ET. Due to ongoing considerations with the pandemic, it’s unclear at this time if fans will be allowed access to the rescheduled date.
The Granite State ProStock Series kicked off its ninth season of competition on Friday night and Ray Christian III started 2020 the same way he ended 2019.
Under clear skies and a full moon, the green flag finally fell as a stacked field of Pro Stocks descended on the Claremont Motorsports park for 100 laps of green flag racing. Some of the top drivers in New England took advantage of the opportunity to be a part of the first pro stock race contested in New England in 2020.
Competition began with The Crazy Horse Racing Fast Time Challenge and It was home town hot shoe Luke Hinkley coming up just short of a new track record. One of the tightest time trial fields on record headed for heat races with great anticipation and didn’t come up short on excitement.
Corliss Fends Off Hodgdon for Season-Opening Win at WMMP
N. Woodstock, NH – Barre, VT’s Jason Corliss picked up the 2020 season right where he left off in 2019 by capturing the season-opening event for the Foley Oil & Propane Late Models at White Mountain Motorsports Park (WMMP) on Saturday, June 6. The defending Thunder Road (VT) track champion took the lead early from Craftsbury Common, VT’s Joel Hodgdon and held him off the rest of the way to capture his first WMMP win in the 75-lap feature as seen around the world on Northeast Sports Network.
Corliss earned the third starting spot in the main event under the American-Canadian Tour “plus-minus” system while Hodgdon started on the pole. Following a rain shower that delayed the start of the feature, Corliss quickly moved to Hodgdon’s bumper, attempting a crossover move on lap-5 that fell short.
Claremont Motorsports Park &GSPSS Return to Action
Claremont Motorsports Park will swing open the gates and return to action Friday June fifth. Three local divisions will be on the card competing in heats and features alongside the Granite State Pro Stock Series. The RE Hinkley Oil Company street stocks will will contest a thirty-lap feature as one of the most exciting divisions in the northeast returns to action. David Greenslit won the track championship at both Claremont and Monadnock Speedway as he had a dream season in 2019. “I’m extremely happy to get back behind the wheel after far to long away from the track”, said Greenslit during a break in last minute preparations. “Mike (Parks) and the entire staff have worked their butts off and we want to put on a good show Friday night.”
