Thunder Road Postpones Memorial Day Classic

Thunder Road Postpones Memorial Day Classic

Barre, VT – Thunder Road officials have announced the postponement of the Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic that was scheduled for Sunday, May 24. The decision was made due to ongoing health and safety regulations in place related to the worldwide COVID-19 outbreak.

While the state of Vermont has gradually been reopening in recent weeks, large gatherings for non-essential businesses and events remain prohibited by the recently-extended Stay Home, Stay Safe order. The current restrictions would limit the number of teams that could race in the event and would also prevent fans from attending.

GSPSS May Schedule Canceled

The Month of May was scheduled to be a busy one for the teams of the Granite State Pro Stock Series. Unfortunately, as the country battles the Covid 19 pandemic, the 2020 season has been put on hold.

“The health and safety of our fans and race teams is our number one priority”, stated series promoter Mike Parks. “As much as we want to be at the track, we will respect the directives of our state officials”. “We are in a situation where we have more questions than answers”, Parks continued. “We want to get going just as soon as we can and we are in contact with all of the series track owners on a weekly basis”.

Claremont Motorsports Park May Schedule on Hold.

Claremont NH – The Month of May is usually the first full month of the race season in New England, unfortunately that will not be the case in 2020. As the country battles the Covid 19 pandemic, The Claremont Motorsports Park season, unfortunately is on hold. “The health and safety of our fans and race teams is our number one priority”, stated track operator Mike Parks. “As much as we want to be at the track every Friday night we will respect the directives of our Governor”.

The Tri Track Modified Series event scheduled for Sunday May 24th is also on hold for the foreseeable future. Several conversations have taken place between series owner Wayne Darling and Parks and once a solid time line is established every attempt will be made to reschedule.

“We are in a situation where we have more questions than answers. We want to get the gates open just as soon as we can whether that is for practice or competition” said Parks. “If we can come up with a way to work with the state and get open for practice we will do that”.

At this time the posted schedule has been put on hold with the intention of picking it up on the date permitted.  If for any reason something changes track officials will adjust accordingly.

During a break in recent track preparations Parks lamented, “this is not how we envisioned our first venture in season long track promotions. Hopefully the racers and fans will continue to stay positive and be ready to come back when the situation allows.”
