Thunder Returns to the Monadnock Mountains in 2017
Winchester, NH – The owners of Monadnock Speedway are very optimistic as they embark on the
2017 racing season. Modified racing has always been popular at the high-banked, ¼ mile speedway and
will continue to be the backbone of Monadnock this year.
Topping the excitement at Monadnock Speedway is the return of the open-wheel
Modified Series. Over the last several years, the speedway has developed a strong following in what
they called the “Sportsman Modifieds”. Written years ago, the rules were designed to provide an
economical modified racing division – exactly the same as the ever-popular SK Lights that run at
nearby Connecticut race tracks. Going into the 2017 season, the Sportsman Modifieds will carry a new
name – the SK Modified Lights.

Winchester, NH: This past Saturday, the fans of Monadnock Speedway saw first time winners as Nancy Muni and Paul Barnard took the checkers celebrating late season victories. The Pro 4 Modifieds made their final stop of the season at the high banks as Brett Meservey scored his first career win in the 35 lap Paul Roach Memorial Race.
The Young Guns rolled onto the track first with Alex Barden setting the pace to the green. On lap one both Devin Guy and Jaret Curtis made contact bringing out the first caution and only caution on lap one. On the restart, Chase Curtis quickly took the lead from Barden. A few laps later, Guy from the back of the pack was up to fourth and began to pressure Shelby Avery for third. Guy looked to the outside as he also protected his position from Jaret Curtis that moved into fifth. As a four-way battle brewed for second between Barden, Avery, Guy and Jaret Curtis, Chase Curtis began to develop a good lead. On lap nine, Guy and Avery went to wheel as Guy took over third. On the next lap, Jaret Curtis passed both Guy and Avery for the third spot. Barden held onto second.
