Winchester, NH. — It was a perfect lead-in to the tracks annual fireworks presentation. The final 9-laps were explosive as drivers made their last run at a strong finish. Chris Pasteryak dove under David Schneider to fifth, Todd Patnode, dove under Steve Masse for a podium finish, but it was the battle for the win that was the grand finale.

Russ Hersey, of Swanzey, NH, dominated the annual Valenti Modified Racing Series ‘Firecracker 100’ at his home track taking the lead on lap-21 and holding it until a last lap showdown with Jon McKennedy, of E.Chelmsford, MA, before a large crowd at Monadnock Speedway Saturday night July 2.

If the opening event at the Monadnock Speedway on Saturday night, April 30, is any indication of how things will go this year, then this should be one of the best racing seasons to date.

Thirteen years ago Larry Cirillo, promoter of Monadnock, gave series founder Jack Bateman the opportunity to showcase the new Modified Racing Series. Bateman must have done something right because the MRS has opened all but two seasons at the high-banked 1/4-mile speedway.

In the end a packed grandstand witnessed some hard fought side-by-side bumper-to-bumper action with Chris Pasteryak of Jewett City, Ct. besting a stellar field to take down his first victory of the MRS 2016 season. It was his 11th win overall with the MRS putting him 4th on the all time win list.

Pasteryak Declared Winner After Wild Finish.

Canaan, NH. — Plainville, CT, veteran Ted Christopher passed under the checkered flag first Saturday night but Sunday morning found himself disqualified from the race due to a rules infraction.

Christopher led the majority of the “Wings & Wheels 100” at New London-Waterford Speedbowl until a lap 93 pass by Chris Pasteryak, of Jewett City, CT, who then pulled way until a late race caution. On a green-white-checker restart, Pasteryak and Christopher hooked up in a side-by-side battle until Christopher made an inside pass move on the last lap to go on to an apparent victory.

Canaan, NH. – The Valenti Modified Racing Series heads to Waterford, Connecticut, Saturday, August 8, to the famed New London-Waterford Speedbowl for the 8th annual ‘Wings and Wheels’ event, a program with a heavy emphasis on open-wheel racing.

Series founder Jack Bateman announced Thursday a 50-point deduction penalty against driver Richard Savary, of Canton, MA, for his part in a last lap crash at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway (ME) last Saturday. Savary has been placed on probation for the balance of the season.

Woody Pitkat, of Stafford Springs, CT, maintains a 24-point lead over Richmond, New Hampshire’s Todd Patnode heading to ‘The Bowl.’ Todd Szegedy, of Ridgefield, CT, is a close third to Patnode (254-248) with Chris Pasteryak, of Jewett, City, CT, fourth (237) and Nashua, New Hampshire’s NormanWrenn, (212) fifth. All top-five point men are competing at Waterford.

At the drop of the green flag, Keith Rocco took the lead from the pole, but he was overtaken by Ryan Preece on lap-2. Dylan Kopec was third in the early running with Woody Pitkat and Rowan Pennink lined up behind him.

VMRSLee, NH. – Tommy Barrett Jr, of Millis, MA, made a tire swap during a lap-55 caution period, then took the lead on lap-91, and went on to win his second consecutive Valenti Modified Racing Series sanctioned ‘Laticrete 100’at Lee USA Speedway Sunday afternoon.

Barrett becomes the first series driver to repeat victory at the New Hampshire tracks 26th annual ‘Oktoberfest’ program. He won last October’s race.

Matt Mead took the lead from the start and was the class of the field until Steve Masse rolled by on lap 55. Masse fast became the pace setter until Barrett reeled him in and passed Masse with 9-laps remaining. Barrett’s win, his third this season, is his 6th career VMRS victory.
